Itsy-bitsy pink bikini gets serviceman jail

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - A Singapore national serviceman who sashayed into a lift early one morning wearing only a pink bikini has been handed a day's jail and a S$11,000 ($7,529) fine by a court in the city-state, a newspaper said on Tuesday.

Tan Wen Zhong, 21, admitted to five charges, including "outraging the modesty" of the woman who shared the lift with him and "fraudulent possession of women's underwear," Singapore's Straits Times reported.

The paper said a subsequent police search of his apartment turned up 46 pieces of women's underwear and bikinis as well as four obscene films.

Tan, who was completing Singapore's mandatory national service when he committed the offence in April, was also accused of grabbing a 23-year-old woman's buttocks a year ago and of shoplifting a pair of sunglasses two years ago.

In mitigation, Tan's lawyer said his client had been badly affected by his parents' divorce during his formative years.

this chao FF seemingly wants to blogicide.. so we are all blogging to stop her from doing so... young, u beta do it otherwise we have nothing to read liaos.. no more comments and tagboard for us to attack flood...

My idol's plea is that she doesnt have enuff of her on MSN / Yahoo Messenger/ SMS/ Phone and the over night sessions at the Mahjung table. She still needs to read her blog too.

In the upcoming review of the Penal Code, it is proposed to repeal the law that currently makes adultery illegal.

So, isn't the whole arguement on 377A a red herring to distract all of us, when the greater danger to marriage and families lie in the repeal of Section 498?

Lets all be pro marriage! Make a stand to keep Section 498 - which protects the sanctity of marriage by making adultery illegal...

Section 498 of the Penal Code, which makes it an offence to entice, take away or detain a married woman with the intention of having illicit intercourse with her, will be repealed.

As extracted from the ST Forum - the letter http://www.straitstimes.com/ST+Forum/Story/STIStory_168767.html by Ms Tan Yen Ling:

One may argue that repealing such a law would signal to society that adultery is acceptable, and this would threaten the family unit and children especially - more so than Section 377A, as it is applicable to all families.

The Ministry of Home Affairs explained that Section 498 concerns an archaic offence which is no longer relevant in today's context.
