RANDOM QUOTE

“The God of the nation was extolled in happy music by the Israelites. Let no Christian be silent or slack in praise, for this God is our God. It is regretted that the niceties of modern music singing frighten our congregations from joining lustily in the hymns. For our part, we delight in full bursts of praise; we would rather discover the ruggedness of a lack of musical training than miss the heartiness of congregational singing. The gentility that lisps the tune in well-bred whispers, or leaves singing to the choir, is a mockery of worship. Blow the trumpets and beat the drums. God is not to be served with misery but with happy music.”

Five Deaths That Prove You Should Eat Fast Food

This morning's Times brings word of the death of hamburger chain founder Wilber Hardee at the ripe old age of 89. Granted, he was felled by a heart attack. But he joins no fewer than four other fast food pioneers who have kicked the bucket over the past six months at extraordinarily advanced ages:

  • Processed french-fry inventor JR Simplot, 99, "natural causes," May.

  • Baskin-Robbins founder Irvine Robbins, 90, "complications related to old age," May.

  • Lovie Yacey, founder of Fatburger, 96, "pneumonia," February.

  • Carl's Jr. founder Carl Karcher, 90, "had Parkinson's disease and was being treated for pneumonia," January.

  • We left out Popeye's Fried Chicken founder Al Copeland, 64, who died of "malignant salivary gland tumor" in March. But he didn't do too badly at all, especially, as our own Hamilton Nolan pointed out, "for a man with a lifetime diet of fried chicken!" (Ahem.)

So there you go — irrefutable, scientific proof that you not only can but probably should load up on cheeseburgers, ice cream, french fries and hot dogs throughout the summer and really for the rest of your life. Hold the guilt!

How To Manage 20-Somethings: The Real Shit

Totally irrelevant newsweekly-turned-listicle-magazine US News & World Report brings you a straight-talking list of ten tips for managing an office full of 20-somethings, according to old business dude G.L. Hoffman. His pointers include "Add value," "Let them use their media," "They want standards," and "Expect varied, non-chain-of-command type communications." Whatever that means. As an actual 20-something, I'm communicating up G.L. Hoffman's chain of command that this list is straight up crapola. You are old and your advice is dorky, Mr. Hoffman! And too long—we 20-somethings have no attention span (or respect for our elders), due to drug use. After the jump, five real tips for managing an office full of 20-somethings, should you ever find yourself in such an unlucky position:

  • Food: Can we get some free food up in here?

  • Shut Up: Dude, you are old and we already know how to do this stupid job, so please just shut up.

  • Don't Sweat It: Don't sweat it, man. We got it all under control. Don't freak out.

  • Money: Pay us more, why don't you?

  • Work: It totally sucks. Nothing you can do about it. Sorry.

    Finally Barry

Reds target Gareth Barry has been quoted today saying his mind is made up and he wishes to join Liverpool after a lack of communication from his current club Aston Villa.

Barry, Villa’s captain, told the News of the World “My mind’s made up, I want to join Liverpool.”

Recently we have seen Villa boss Martin O’Neill happy to discuss, make that rant about, the Barry situation whilst working as a pundit for BBC during Euro 2008, and before that in the press when he wrongly accused Liverpool of leaking the initial bid - something which it was later revealed was leaked from Villa’s end. But Barry hasn’t been impressed; “Villa kept saying they wanted me to stay but I have not heard from the manager for weeks.”

"It’s seven weeks now since the season finished but while the gaffer’s found time to be a pundit for the BBC at Euro 2008, he hasn’t found the time to speak to me.

“Have Villa offered me anything to try to persuade me my future is at Villa Park, not Anfield? Not a thing.”

Barry made it clear where he sees his future; “There’s no going back, it’s time for me to move on. I’m desperate to play Champions League football and that’s why I have to leave Villa.”

Now add up your scores and find your personality below…

    Your score:
    *******************************************************
    12-20:

You tend to be a shy person. You may feel uncomfortable with a lot of other people. You some times think that you were given a body that does not fit your mind, and perhaps you were born in the wrong year. You are much smarter than most people think you are and you do not let other people know about it. You have a giant heart that gets crushed all the time. You tend to have an artistic flair. Music you like: songs about love, lost love, and heartbreak. Your favorite movie: Titanic.

There are days when you would rather stay home and enjoy time to yourself than to go out and deal with annoying people. Cupid has toyed with you. Someone you loved has hurt you.Your parents fought when you were small. You have thought about getting a tattoo.
    *******************************************************
    21-30:

You made your way in this world in spite of all the obstacles you have faced. You have seen a lot more troubles than most people. You have had to deal with difficult people, ridiculous rules, and tempestuous relationships. Love for you can be as intense as the fire on the face of the sun. You are either very calm on the inside when there is a lot of insanity around you or you shut people up and take charge. You can go to a movie by yourself without the need for som eone to go with you. You are as comfortable alone as you are with others. You are angry at your parents and you can’t change them. You are a great lover when you find that rare mate who is your equal, but otherwise your relationships have been short or frustrating. You have stayed too long with a partner you did not like.

Life is a roller coaster, and you are finding ways to make the good times better. You LOVE sports.
    *******************************************************
    31-42:

You generally are a calm person. You get excited when your favorite band is in town, when you are going on a date with your partner, and when you and your friends are dancing. For you, your friends mean everything to you. You hate it when the summer is over. You like art, and some poetry.

You can throw a party, or help a friend put one together. You usually have no trouble finding dates, but you occasionally hit a dry spell. You like the outdoors, usually, and rainy weather doesn’t bother you. You sometimes get jealous of people who are smarter or better looking than you, but you wouldn’t hold it against them if you got to know them. You are on good terms with your parents, even though they piss you off once in a while.

You saw your parents kissing. People tend to think you are reliable and trustworthy. You like animals.
    *******************************************************
    43-52

Sometimes there just isn’t enough time in a day for you to do everything you would like to do. If there isn’t anything fun going on at the moment, then you know how to get things rolling. You tend to be the kind of person people look up to, and you usually have the ability to excel at most things you try. You usually don’t care what people think about you, and you have no problem kissing your mate in public. Sex for you is a passionate art, and you never have a&nbs p;problem in bed, except for being a little too wild for your partner. You tend to have an energy level that is one step above the others, but you can play it cool if you want to. You prefer to play sports than to watch. People have been jealous of you, but its unlikely you noticed. Your parents are active people, and may not have given you as much time as you wanted.

You have a tattoo, play in a band, or are on a sports team. People copy you. Sometimes you are truly miserable, but not for long.
